Medical massage is an outcome-based massage, that targets specific aliments of a diagnosis.  It is administered after a thorough medical history.

Other Medical Professional, like a client's MD, Physical Therapist or Chiropractor, might converse to create coordinating care, with the client's consent.

Working in the medical field as an Occupational Therapy Assistant, I saw how the different therapies can overlap in their treatment methods.  This overlap can create over-therapy for a person, such as Physical Therapy and Massage Therapy doing massage. 

 

I have no problem adjusting my treatment methods, or being told which massage modalities to focus on and sharing my notes, so that my client's can get the best care.
