Sciatic Pain: The Technique That Helped an Iron Man Athlete With Sciatic Pain

History:

This gentleman was training for his first Iron Man race. He had scheduled a massage with me because he was starting to get pain in his butt and upper thigh. It hurt him the most after riding his bike. He was worried it might be his sciatic nerve getting pinched.

Melissa's Technique:

His muscles were all very tight, so I had to do a lot of deep tissue work before getting detailed. With scar tissue from past injuries, I also used cupping to break scar tissue all around the lower back and hips. Finally, I was able to start checking and treating trigger points. As soon as I pushed on his quadratus lumborum, he reported that was it. I spent the last half of that massage doing the QL Smasher to his lower back.

Education:

I suggested putting KT tape on his lower back. Then, I let him borrow my Theracane because although you can use a ball against a wall to address the trigger points at home, that would not have been deep enough for him.

The Result:

His sciatic nerve pain got about 70% better before he took part and finished his first Iron Man race. Of course, then he came back for recovery massages.

Invitation:

If you are having issues with your sciatic nerve while pregnant and would like to experience The QL Smasher, make an appointment for an in-home massage today.

Disclaimer:

What works for one person is not guaranteed to work for everyone.

That is why Melissa's Mobile Massage customizes her client's sessions. The name of the massage technique above is typically not a proper term for a technique, therefore other massage therapists would not know what The QL Smasher is.
