History:

Sciatic pain going down his left leg was making this client's life miserable. The chiropractor I worked for asked me to work with him. When I checked his glut and piriformis muscle, they were tight, but I didn't think they were the answer. I was wrong.

Melissa's Technique:

With sciatic pain, frequently, the piriformis muscle (a muscle located in your gluts) ends up compressing the nerve. Usually, the "massage answer" is to combat that compression with more compression, followed by movement. As soon as I put my elbow in the piriformis muscle, he reported that I had found the spot. The piriformis twister was the technique I used to get immediate relief.

Education:

Although this technique works best if done by someone else, there are ways to adapt it so you can do it yourself. So, I showed him how to use a lacrosse ball (can also use a tennis ball), because he needed deep pressure, to get that muscle to relax.

Results:

That has been over 7 years ago. He has messaged me a few times saying how he's having a hard time finding other massage therapists that will go deep enough to get it loose.

Invitation:

If you are having issues with sciatic nerve and would like to experience the piriformis twister, make an appointment for an in-home massage today.

Disclaimer:

What works for one person is not guaranteed to work for everyone.

This is why Melissa's Mobile Massage customizes her client's sessions. The name of the massage techniques above is typically not a proper term for a technique, therefore other massage therapists would not know what a piriformis twister is.
