History:
This massage therapist had an outstanding massage career, even though she personally dealt with the chronic pain condition of Fibromyalgia. Although she stretched daily and took good care of herself, her muscles would get extremely tight. She knew that the only type of massage that would help her was a very deep tissue massage.
Melissa's Technique:
Slowly I would work deeper and deeper into her muscles, using my forearm and pointy elbow to get as many muscles loosened up as possible. The technique that worked best was Deep Tissue. She did it monthly, but sometimes every two weeks to keep her functioning as pain-free as possible.
Results:
This was the maintenance program that worked best for her.
Education:
This was early in my career and before I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia when I saw her. I had the misconception that a person who has Fibromyalgia could only have a Swedish massage. She educated me about Fibromyalgia and showed me how a good massage maintenance program could impact my life.
